The Art of Ballet

“Please send me your last pair of shoes, worn out with dancing as you mentioned in your letter, so that I might have something to press against my heart.” ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I am almost rendered speechless in how to explain myself here. Having watched Anna Kate grow up over the years and photographing her with her family, I’ve been stunned by her poise and beauty. Now a ballerina, I was drawn to create a project around her and her dance. It was an incredible experience collaborating creatively together and I am over the moon with her images.

The Art of Dance, the Art of Life can only be created through The Art of your Heart….
You are amazing, Laura Cottril.

Senior Portraits or Family Portraits?

Milestones are a natural time to think of having family portraits done and with spring comes the urgency of needing to get our seniors photographed. I notice that many times families will know they want to get their portraits done, but haven’t thought about what they will do with them. This also applies to the senior portraits with an added twist; when updating one child in the family, why not update all of them, or even the whole family? Chances are your family hasn’t had portraits made in awhile. All your kids are at different development stages and sometimes one has already flown the nest. By photographing all your kids, or even your whole family it also solves the awkward problem of celebrating only one child with photographs.

In this client’s world, their daughter has graduated and is in the working world already. Their son has just graduated with honors and will be going away to college in the midwest. What better reason to create portraits of your family in this time now, before life gets busier, kids go away to school and the family starts growing again?

It was such a pleasure to work with this mom, who shared her vision and her dreams for her family portraits with me. By collaborating we could bring in all the elements that sang to her; the old world romanticism of the location, the clothing that was meaningful to each person, and definitely their beautiful and charming dogs!

“Laura is amazing to work with, from start to finish! She really listened to my vision and immediately understood what I was after–portraits that celebrated our togetherness as a family and documented who we were before our son went off to college and our daughter establishes her own household. Not only is Laura an outstanding photographer, she is someone who cares about your vision and has the skills, resources and knowledge to execute it. She also provides invaluable insights and guidance on frames and makes it very easy to have your dream portraits become a reality!”

Laura_Cottril_0W7A9650Creating these beautiful pieces with my client’s wishes in mind was such an honor and a joy. Truly collaborating made every step so exciting. From planning the session, through the session itself, selecting favorites and choosing final frames, it was a true melding of wishes, creativity and quality.

De La Salle Baseball Legacy: Seniors 2016

“As the season goes on, teammates go from teammates, to friends to brothers.” – Baseballism

Even though we’ve seen it happen over and over in our lives, it is still so miraculous to see our children grow up and prepare to leave the nest for new horizons. What a treasure for these best buddies to have these portraits as their legacy; a capsule of their time together before they go their separate ways. A friendship like this will never be forgotten.

Quinceañera Beauty

Sisters quote

It has been truly amazing watching my clients grow up as my business has grown up. I photographed this beauty when she was two or three and I was just starting out in business trying to find myself. I’ve photographed her through the years watching her turn into a beautiful girl of fifteen. Photographing her in her gorgeous Quinceañera gown in a stunning location with the warm glow of sunset was a dream. Celebrating these milestones captures the beauty now and becomes exponentially more valuable as time goes on.

Restoration of the soul, through beauty

Laura_Cottril_0W7A9223-ExposureWhat words can even convey my feelings for these girls, this day, these portraits. They are truly food for my soul. I’ve watched this big sister grow up before my lens since she was a five-day-old newborn. She delights me in every way and her deep sensibility and collusion on our “surprise for daddy, girls only session” only multiplied my delight. I feel beyond lucky to know this family and now call them treasured friends, with their trust of my creation and unwavering support and delight of the outcome.

Sisters quote

Adding in the fire of little sister made for an exciting session. She wanted to do everything big sister did…until she was done. Which wasn’t long! Then of course she posed in her own way, which was equally as beautiful. Their relationship is a jewel. Such true love there, as well as lots of laughs and hugs galore. I’ll never forget this day as long as I live. Blessed am I.
